Overton Cares is aware that there may be people in the village who would appreciate the gift of non-perishable groceries but who do not meet the criteria for traditional food banks. “Lockdown Larder” may be able to help.  Please email overtoncares2@gmail.com or telephone 07547 094417 and let us know your name and phone number (mobile if possible). We will then contact you with a time for you to pop along.  To respect social distancing, it will be a 15-minute appointment just for your household. This food has been bought with money donated by the Basingstoke Voluntary Action group.

Overton’s Lockdown Larder and Food Parcels

We would like to clarify the following:

Lockdown Larder cannot provide food parcels but if you feel you may qualify for the delivery of free food parcels this is the process: Contact the Citizens Advice Bureau in Basingstoke – 01264 723641 or www.basingstokeandtadleycab.org.uk or email clerical@basingstoke.cabnet.org.uk   If the CAB agree that you do qualify for free food parcel delivery, please ask them to refer you to the Andover Food Bank not the Basingstoke Food Bank.  This new process has been agreed between Overton Cares, the Basingstoke Voluntary Action group and both the Food Banks.

STREET VOLUNTEERS

We have organised a network of Street Volunteers who can coordinate requests for help from people on your street.
The table below should help clarify our role with regards to how Overton Cares differs from the NHS Volunteer Scheme.

You should receive a slip of paper through your door with the details of your Street Volunteer.
Your Street Volunteer can:
  • Collect shopping for you from shops in Overton Village
  • Collect prescriptions from the village chemist
  • Deliver post to a letterbox - please only use the Post Office in cases of extreme need, to avoid Street Volunteers needing to queue.
  • Arrange for telephone support for you
Please note, Street Volunteers will leave items on your doors step; they are are unable to enter your property, or give medical advice.  If you need medical advice please call 111.
If you can help as a Street Volunteer please write to overtoncares@gmail.com and tell us your name, address, telephone number and email.
HOW TO PAY FOR YOUR SHOPPING

Turner's Butchers can take payment over the phone.
You can call Turner's on: 01256 770 661
You can organise the delivery time with your Street Volunteer.
If you are unable to make a card payment over the phone you should:
  • Leave a £5, £10 or £20 in an envelope ready to give to your Street Volunteer when they deliver your shop.
  • Tell your volunteer which note you will give them.
  • They will bring you the change and receipt in a paper envelope when they deliver.
  • Please leave your change untouched in the envelope for at least 24hrs to ensure that it is safe to handle.
